This year we’ve been thinking hard about our impact on the world and have been working to ensure that it’s a positive one. Using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as our framework, we’ve been making some little changes (and some big ones!) to ensure that our contribution to people and planet is a positive one.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the things we’ve achieved in 2019:

1   We powered down. It’s a small change, but by switching all our computers to power saving mode and making sure they’re shut down completely at night we’ve saved around 3.1 tons of C02 a year. (SDG 13)

2   We planted 72 trees in Malawi. Between them they’ll capture 1.5 tons of C02 a year as well as helping poor Malawian families through income generation and provision of food and firewood for their own consumption. (SDG 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 13)

3   We got rid of our under desk bins, saving a whopping 6,240 single use plastic bags a year. That’s over 31kg less plastic now making its way to landfill and oceans every year! (SDG 12, 14)

4   We rowed 9.5 miles down the Thames and raised over £2,000 for The AHOY! Centre, helping provide access to training and valuable life skills to vulnerable and at risk children and disabled adults. (SDG 3, 4)

5   We’ve been working with our production suppliers and clients to find out where we can be even greener with our print – by using less harmful chemicals, specifying more sustainable materials, using more energy efficient processes, and producing less waste. (SDG 12, 13)

6   We’ve also been revising our procurement practices and are creating a Green Supplier Database to ensure that our key suppliers are aligned with our sustainability aims and values. (SDG 12, 13)

7   When London became the first ever National Park City, we became a Partner. As placemakers, we believe that connecting people to nature is important and we want to help make our home town a more sustainable and accessible place to live, work, and play. One that everybody can enjoy. (SDG 3, 11, 15)

8  We’ve taken our first steps towards becoming a carbon neutral business by launching our very own employee carbon-offsetting scheme, offering all our employees the opportunity to become completely carbon neutral! The clue’s in the name – Buy One Get One Tree! – sign up to plant a tree every month through your salary and we’ll plant another one, reducing our carbon footprint by 100% for every employee signed up :-) (SDG 13, 15)

9   Who gives a crap? We do! Which is why we are now ordering all our loo roll from Who Gives a Crap. Not only is it 100% recycled paper, but it also contains no harmful inks, dyes, or scents, plus they donate 50% of profits to help build toilets for people in need! (SDG 6)

So far we’ve targeted SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

We’re working on the others, and we’ve got big plans for 2020. Watch this space for more news…
